Job Purpose and Role

We are seeking Sports & Physical Activity Centre Assistants who will deliver a range of tasks that ensure the smooth running of the service, engaging with the University community and supporting their journey into physical activity.
Our part time shift-based roles include a range of flexible opportunities including early mornings, evenings, and weekends and will focus on providing efficient and effective customer advice and administrative support at our front desk, support the set up and set down of equipment, and assisting with promotion and marketing of the services.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain excellent relationships with customers and potential customers, handling and escalating queries and complaints where appropriate.
- Provide reception cover and other related duties as required, including making bookings, handling membership activity and taking payments.
- Assist with promotion and marketing of services.
- Use a suite of IT systems including Leisure Management Systems accurately and efficiently.
- Provide supervision to keep customers safe including quickly relaying safety messages, reporting repairs, and administering Basic Sport First Aid Treatment where required.
- Carry out cleaning duties as required in accordance with a cleaning schedule, ensuring that high standards of presentation and safety are maintained at all times, reporting any deficiencies to management.
- Work as a team to assist and provide supervision with daily checks, opening, closing, and setting up gym, sports hall, and class environments, ensuring customer service and safety standards are met, for both internal and external hire.
- Monitoring and recording of standards of ActiveHud facilities and equipment as requested.
- Accurately and safely follow Normal Operating Procedures and the Emergency Action Plan to ensure the safety of customers.
- Contribute to the performance of the Team by participating positively in staff training sessions/courses and staff meetings as and when required.
- To engage in and carry out any other duties which are appropriate to the grade of the post as specified by the ActiveHud leadership team.
Terms and Conditions
Hours of Work:
- Zero-hour contract with maximum hours of work per week being determined by the University Policy, however this is usually up to 16 hours in term time.
Starting Salary:
- Hourly paid opportunities are paid at grade 3 equivalent to £12.60 per hour. On appointment staff will be placed on the first point of the scale.
Annual Leave:
- Annual leave entitlement is paid in quarterly instalments pro rata to hours worked.
Closing Date:
- Sunday 6th April at 23:59

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise and take responsibility for the turnaround, set-up and take-down of events. This includes, but is not limited to the following duties:
- Building the bleacher seating, installing the necessary accessories, following the manual handling guidelines and risk assessments.
- Expected to uphold a relative level of fitness due to heavy lifting and physical work as standard.
- Setting up and dismantling other events spaces such as the Sports Hall, Studios, Changing Rooms, and the Fitness Suites to meet events client’s requirements.
- Ensuring the venue is ready for each event by following the crib sheets and ensuring all areas are neat and tidy.
- Liaise with Shift Supervisor & Events Manager to ensure awareness of the event requirements and react positively to any last-minute changes, keeping them informed of any issues and if work is running behind schedule.

Working at ActiveHud provided me with valuable industry experience, particularly through using software like Plus2 and Microsoft Excel, which are essential for administrative and operational tasks. As a student, the flexible scheduling allowed me to balance work with my studies, ensuring that university remained my top priority. The workplace environment was both friendly and supportive, making it an enjoyable place to work. The team was welcoming and easy to get along with, which made collaboration smooth and productive. Additionally, working as an Events Assistant came with the unique perk of watching the West Yorkshire Hawks’ basketball games, adding an exciting element to the role.
Working as an Event Assistant at ActiveHud has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The role offers great flexibility, allowing me to balance my academic studies while gaining valuable industry experience in event coordination, customer service, and teamwork. The working environment is welcoming and dynamic, with a supportive team that encourages personal and professional growth. With lectures being occasionally changed, ActiveHud has been brilliant at letting me choose when I work and changing my shifts to suit me and my studies.
